Enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean with Arissy at the next Meanwhile Mondays supper on Monday 10 July.
Currently the resident kitchen at The Kemp in St Georges Road, Brighton, Isy Hinchliffe and Benji Hinchliffe serve informal small plates backed with the flavours of the Mediterranean using a combination of local produce and premium ingredients directly sourced from the countries that inspire them.
“Our one-off Meanwhile Mondays menu is inspired by our travels around France, Italy, Greece and Spain”, said Isy. “We’re very excited to showcase the Mediterranean food we love to cook and eat, through our usual informal, relaxed sharing plates”.
The sharing platter of starters include Panisse polenta bread with broad beans, peas and mint alongside sun-dried tomato croquettes with guajillo chilli aioli. The main course brings grilled octopus with spicy sausage and pickled watermelon, and lamb chops served over beads of fregola pasta with semi-soft cheese and herb. Dessert is Basque cheesecake, baklava, prune choux bun, honey and yoghurt ice cream.
On the night, guests can also select from Meanwhile Café’s small but perfectly formed list of natural and organic wines alongside an extensive choice of local craft beers.
Culinary trained at University of West London, Isy’s style reflects her years spent cooking at the renowned Ottolenghi’s flagship restaurant in London and Rasoterra – a vegetarian fine-dining restaurant in Barcelona.
Benji is a well-known face in Brighton having headed the kitchen of La Choza Mexican restaurant for many years, following a stint cooking at the sunny beach bars of Ibiza.
Meanwhile Mondays are a new monthly pop-up supper club presented by BITE Sussex and Meanwhile Café in Jubilee Street, Brighton. Each month, a different chef or restaurant takes over the kitchen to present a one-off menu in their own unique style, with tickets at a very pocket-friendly price of £35.
“Our Meanwhile Mondays are starting to get a regular following”, said Nathalie Gomez de Vera, co-director of BITE Sussex. “With such an eclectic line-up of chefs – many of whom are doing menus that you wouldn’t typically expect from them – it’s a super way for food lovers to experience completely unique dining”.
Previous chefs include Seb Cole of Boho Gelato, Maria Chilton and James Gray of Angelica Food and chef Simon Mckenzie, with forthcoming 2023 dates seeing Pulpo Negro, YouJuice, Nanima Asian Kitchen and Momma Cherri rattling the pots and pans.
