BITE Sussex Dogs Dinner competition 2026: Canine critics vote on Brighton’s best bites
Food loving dogs took centre stage at Brighton Beach House on Saturday 10 October.
Brighton veterinary surgeon Dr Marc Abraham OBE hosted the annual Dogs Dinner competition in conjunction with BITE Sussex on the terrace of Cecconi’s restaurant on Marine Parade.
Local professional chefs were challenged to create a dog-friendly snack that was judged by a panel of canine critics, ably assisted by their humans for scoring which was thenwas independently verified by competition adjudicator Andrew Kay from Latest TV.
Dog loving venues Boho Gelato, Nostos, Soho House and The Winkle each produced a bite sized snack for the dogs to wolf down including venison biscuits, pumpkin and chicken crackers, vegan frozen treats and doggy fruit pancakes.
“Many venues say that they’re dog-friendly but on arrival are barely dog-tolerant,” said Dr Marc, who’s based at Mewes Vets in Rottingdean. “All of the venues in the Dogs Dinner competition fully embrace our furry friends. You can really see that in the thought and love that’s gone into making all these snacks.”
After being pipped to the post in 2025, Nostos swooped the coveted Dogs Dinner Winner water bowl – designed by the Pottery Painting Café in North Laine – by a margin of just one point.
““We take the competition surprisingly seriously,” said Kyriakos Baxevanis of Nostos.
“We spent days perfecting the meat broth for our autumn-inspired dog treats, so it’s wonderful to see our four-legged judges approve. The winners’ bowl has already taken pride of place at Nostos!”
Humans enjoyed pastries and coffees on Cecconi’s dog-friendly terrace with all monies donated to RSPCA Brighton. Event sponsor Creature Clothes Store on Bond Street gifted each of the dogs a handmade rainbow bandana to wear with pride.
