This week, Brighton’s Isaac At restaurant announced a huge giveaway of English wine that will be the envy of any wine lover, writes Nick Mosley.
Established in 2015, Isaac At quickly became one of Brighton’s must-do dining experiences and has gone on to garner recognition at numerous regional food and drink awards alongside national acclaim in the likes of the annual UK and Ireland Michelin Guide.
A holder of two AA Rosettes, the restaurant has a focus on hyper-local seasonal produce from Sussex farmers and foragers with the current well-considered menu featuring Saddlescoombe lamb, hand-picked pears from Ticehurst, sustainably-caught fish from Brighton and Newhaven Fish Sales in Portslade and what could possibly be the best tasting tomatoes grown in the UK from Nutbourne Place Farm near Petworth.
What makes Isaac At particularly unique is that all the kitchen and front-of-house team are aged 27 or younger. Head chef Caspian Armani has maturity and talent well beyond his years whilst sommelier Alex Preston knows more about English wine than perhaps anyone else in the county.
“Authenticity is a massive part of everything we do”, said chef Caspian. “The restaurant is in tune with the seasons and our surrounding environment – whilst Sussex is our passion, its about so much more than how and where we source our food from. We strive to be part of the very fabric of the county in all aspects of what we do”.
Isaac At was the first restaurant in the UK with an exclusively English wine list, which was seen as pretty revolutionary by contemporaries in the wider restaurant industry at the time. It’s a decision that has clearly paid dividends.
This week, they’ve announced an impressive giveaway of 37 bottles of English sparkling and still wines – with a value of well over £1000 – for one lucky person.
The aim of the giveaway is to encourage more subscribers to their informative monthly newsletter that not only updates consumers with restaurant news and menus but also includes recipes and fascinating features about the Sussex food and drink producers who work with the restaurant.
“They’re all bottles from our wine list”, said sommelier Alex. “Some of them are exclusives from the vineyards that aren’t for general resale or are vintages that simply are no longer available”.
“We work closely with our wine-maker friends and colleagues to promote and spotlight the world-class English wine industry. This giveaway allows us to make lots of positive noise about these amazing drinks that are produced right here on our doorstep in Sussex”.
