Nick Mosley shares his weekly round-up of the best value restaurant and bar deals to be had in the city.

Bills

If there’s one thing that Bill’s has always done well it’s hearty plates of colourful food packed with fresh ingredients.

Their set menu caught my eye the other day, offering two courses for £17.50 or three courses for £21.50. The impressive thing is its available Monday to Friday from 11.30am through to close.

Choose from four starters including crispy chicken and sesame dumplings, six mains – of course featuring the classic Bill’s burger – and four desserts. Sides are priced separately but from my last meal there, you only need to order if you’re particularly hungry.

Blossoms

You simply can’t miss beautiful Blossoms in Brighton Square… without wanting to state the obvious, just look for the cherry blossom!

Serving up a menu of Japanese bites, small plates and sharers – alongside one of the city’s best cocktail offerings – this restaurant-bar is a sensory explosion.

From Sunday to Thursday from 12 noon to 3pm, their lunchtime offer bento boxes are packed with fluffy steamed rice, tangy pickled ginger and tender edamame alongside crisp vegetable gyozas plus a choice of either golden kara-age chicken or a comforting pumpkin korokke to complete your box.

Served with a choice of Asahi beer, house red or white wine or a soft drink, it is unbeatable value at just £15.

Burger & Lobster

I had an amazing lunch at Burger & Lobster earlier this month. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a whole grilled or steamed lobster with a side of fries at a similar price anywhere else in Brighton and Hove; its pretty much half the price of other seafood-led restaurants.

One thing that really caught my eye on my recent visit is their Oyster Hour offer. From 3pm to 6pm on Monday to Friday, rock oysters are just £1 each. With oysters typically being priced at £3-5 each on restaurant menus nowadays, that’s an incredible deal so push the boat our and also treat yourself to a glass of bubbles or two…

Nostos

This is quite a deal and at one of my favourite Brighton restaurants too having dined there twice in a week last month. And as a discerning dining critic I say the pork gyros is exceptional.

Kyriakos and the team invite you to unlimited Greek street food every Wednesday for just £21 per person. Book a 90 minute slot between 5pm and 9pm for an all-you-can-eat Greek feast with endless gyros, souvlaki, fresh salads, warm pita, golden fries and more.

Nostos will whisk you away to sunny climes with a lively atmosphere and vibrant Mediterranean flavours. Nóstimos!

The Prestonville Arms

Recently under new management, The Prestonville Arms has got its mojo back. The venue has had a considerable refurbishment but has lost none of its original charm. Whats really stood out to me on recent visits is that friendly locals are flooding back to enjoy a natter over a pint and well-priced, homemade food.

There are offers galore throughout the week to entice diners and drinkers including 2-for-1 burgers every Monday, two cocktails for £12 every day from 4pm - 7pm and Fish Fridays offering a free pint, 175ml of house wine or soft drink with every plate of fish and chips. Cheers to that!

Tutto

Undoubtably of Brighton’s most stylish and atmospheric restaurants, Tutto’s dining rooms and marble topped bar will transport you to the land of la bella vita. This is authentic Italian food prepared and served with skill and passion; I think you’d be hard-pressed to find anything close to the experience elsewhere in the city.

Enjoy two courses for £19 or three courses for £23 on Monday through to Friday from 12 noon until 6.30pm. With dishes including Taleggio cheese and truffle pizzette, wood-fired sardines, pistachio tagliatelle and – my personal favourite Italian dish – spaghetti vongole, you really are in for a gastronomic treat.

Twisted Lemon

I think this was the first cocktail bar I ever visited in Brighton and that was many moons ago and a lot of margaritas under the bridge. Tucked away down a small alley way, not much has changed – its still one of the most chilled bars in the city but continues to mix, mash and shake amazing cocktails at similarly amazing prices.

Happy hour runs Sunday to Friday from 12 noon until 7pm with top notch drinks at £8.95.

Also check out their partner bar Twisted Lime on the junction of Middle Street and seafront Kings Road that offers the same deal Sunday to Friday from 5pm to 10pm.
