Brighton and Hove chefs are being challenged to make the tastiest snack to be judged by a panel of canine critics on Saturday 9 August.

The Dogs Dinner competition is organised by BITE Sussex and Dr Marc Abraham OBE from Mewes Vets in Rottingdean, and will be hosted on the dog-friendly terrace at Soho House’s Cecconi’s restaurant on Madeira Drive, Brighton. The restaurant is open to the public for lunch and dinner with a choice of Northern Italian inspired dishes available to enjoy on the seafront terrace.

“This isn’t our first Dogs Dinner competition”, said Nick Mosley, co-director of BITE Sussex. “We’ve hosted many over the years at different food festivals including on Hove Lawns. Its a bit of quirky fun for chefs with the chance to bag themselves a bespoke Dogs Dinner Winner 2025 dog bowl – designed exclusively for the event by The Painting Pottery Café in North Laine – to proudly display inside or outside their restaurant”.

Well-known TV vet and local face, Dr Marc Abraham, has partnered on the event in previous years.

"It's not often Brighton's top chefs are asked to create canapés for our local canine critics”, said Marc.

“Of course, when preparing their unique recipes, chefs must always take into account that not all human foods – such as chocolate, raisins and onions – are safe for dogs”.

“As well as promising lots of fun for both dogs and their humans, this Dogs Dinner event is a fantastic way of raising much needed funds for RSPCA Brighton who help rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs, cats and other small animals in throughout Sussex”.

Soho House’s general manager Christian Glover was quick to support the Dogs Dinner competition.

"As a lifelong dog lover myself, I'm thrilled that Soho House’s restaurant terrace is dog-friendly from August, as well as being open to the public, not just for our members”, said Christian.

“My Soho House team and I look forward to hosting the Dogs Dinner event, plus welcoming all pampered pooches, and their well-behaved humans”.

Chefs and owners are invited to register to participate on a first-come first-served basis, although a waiting list will also be available.

“We have places for up to ten Brighton chefs working at pubs, cafés and restaurants in the city, plus 20 dogs and their owners”, said Nick.

Sussex-based food wholesaler Adams Food Service are generously sponsoring the ingredients that participating chefs choose to use for their doggy treats.

Tickets for dog and human duos are £20 and include coffee and pastry, and a doggy bag sponsored by It’s The Dogs to take home. 100% of proceeds for the event will be donated to the Brighton branch of the RSPCA to support their work.
