A Taste of Kerala at Monarch, Brighton

Monarch’s head chef, Prakash Pushpakaranvimala, has been a well-known face on the Brighton and Hove food scene for many years having headed up the kitchens of venues including The Black Lion, Mama Cherry, the Lion and Lobster and La Piazza Brasserie. Now at Monarch on Brighton seafront, Prakash is bringing a taste of his home region of India to the BITE Sussex Spring food & drink festival. Kerala is one of the Indian subcontinents most exciting and varied food regions, offering an extensive kitchen of vegetarian, fish, poultry and red meat dishes. Located in the south of India, the region is known as the ‘Land of Spices’ having been at the heart of the spice route for millennia. The mix of Hindu, Muslim and Christian religions means Keralan cuisine has enjoyed inspiration from a multitude of cultures over the century but can rightly claim its own food identity.

Menu Starters: Batata vada, Vegetable pakora, Parippa vada. Poppadom Mains: Parippa curry with spinach, Kerala fish fry, Coconut chicken masala, Lemon rice Dessert: Semiya payasam To accompany your meal, enjoy a complimentary half pint of Indian Pale Ale from the Three Acres Brewery in East Sussex.
