The Sussex Peasant's Big Summer Market will be visiting The Bull at Ditchling

The Sussex Peasant's Big Summer Markets return this week, bringing together some of Sussex's finest farmers, growers, bakers, winemakers and artisan food producers for a celebration of local food and community.

The markets take place at The Bull in Ditchling on Thursday 25 June, St Ann's Well Gardens in Hove on Friday 26 June and Preston Park – by the Velodrome – on Saturday 27 June.

Visitors can shop directly from local producers, discover what's in season and meet the people behind the food. With Sussex fruit season now in full swing, expect to find summer favourites alongside artisan breads, locally reared meat, cheeses, wines and a host of other food and drink from across the county.

"Our Big Summer Markets are about reconnecting people with the farmers and producers on their doorstep”, said Ed Johnstone, founder of The Sussex Peasant.

“Sussex is home to some incredible food and drink businesses and this is a chance to meet them, hear their stories and buy directly from the people who grow, rear and make the food we eat. Every market helps support local producers and keeps more money circulating within our local economy.”

Among the producers attending is Flint Owl Bakery.

"At Flint Owl Bakery, everything starts with great ingredients and time”, said David Bland from Flint Owl Bakery.

“We use traditional methods, long fermentation and carefully sourced flour to create breads with real flavour and character. Markets like The Sussex Peasant are important because they bring together people who genuinely care about local food and allow us to connect directly with the community that supports independent producers like us."

Jacob's Ladder Farms will also be attending.

"We're passionate about raising animals in a way that works with nature and produces food we're proud to put on our own table”, said Jayne Duveen of Jacobs Ladder Farms.

“The Sussex Peasant markets give people the chance to meet the farmers behind their food, ask questions and understand the real value of local farming."

"We really enjoy coming to The Sussex Peasant Big Summer Markets”, added Esme Crother from Poynings Grange Vineyard.

“The atmosphere Ed and his team have created is fantastic - authentic, hardworking and full of quality local producers. We're proud to be part of it.”

Whether you're looking to fill your shopping basket, discover new local producers or simply enjoy a great day out, The Sussex Peasant's Big Summer Markets offer a chance to celebrate the people, produce and community that make Sussex such a special place to eat and shop local.
